My List of Neurotechnology Questions

During Isaac Newton’s time at the University of Cambridge, he carried around a notebook that he obsessively covered with questions like ‘what is heat?’, ‘what is light?’

Newton inspired me to carry around a notebook that I cover with a growing list of questions. I occasionally dump those questions into this list. Hopefully, it’s a personal reminder to find the answers. If you have an answer, resource, or another question, send me an email!

Would grafting electrodes to neural stem cells make them more biocompatible and longer-lasting than current materials (polyimide, silicon, etc.)?
Is there a matrix of the materials, methods, and biocompatibility of the various neurotechnologies?
What are helpful disciplines to study in college to make advancements in neurotech? Why do most people come from engineering/physics backgrounds?
Are there any neurotechnology funds that invest in applied science or novel research (similar to Longevity Fund)?
What are all of the factors that constitute healthy neural function (ex vivo)? For example, if the brain produces organized electrical activity is that enough to say it's functioning correctly?
In what circumstances do you heat up the brain beyond its natural state? At what rate can you safely do this? What’s the maximum threshold before the brain melts?
What's the relationship, if any, between neuromorphic chips for computing and neural devices for humans?
In the ideal state, who should have access to data from neurotechnology devices? Developers? Employers? Parents?
Is it ethical for neural data to be stored on company servers? Should it be stored on an individual's personal device? How often should it be overwritten?
Should we have the right to unmediated information about ourselves?
“Market mechanisms fail to nudge manufacturers to be fully transparent about the limitation of their products.” How will this apply to neurotechnology?
Intuitively, neurotechnology seems critical, or at least helpful for AI alignment. Why?
Who are the leading neuroethicists and what are their theories around neurotechnology risk?
What organizations will govern neurotechnology risk? When will it make sense to have OpenAI and Anthropic-like entities for neurotechnology risk?
What are public (or your own private) timelines for neurotechnology reaching a transhumanist state (e.g., high-bandwidth communication with technology and each other)?
